Glucose disposal agent (GDAs) are substances that aid the uptake of glucose from the blood stream into the muscle tissue where it can be use immediately to fuel activity or can be stored in the muscles and liver as glycogen to provide energy when needed later. GDAs increase muscle cells sensitivity to insulin therefore reducing the need for high in the blood and helping to ensure that carbohydrates we consume is used as fuel for activity, rather than stored as body fat and so potentially enhancing perform, recovery and body composition.
But to understand this better i gonna brake down to you what is glucose and insulin and there main action on our body.
Glucose is the body's preferred fuel. It comes from the breakdown of the carbohydrates we consume and is predominant energy source for high intensity activities lasting from 30 seconds to approximately 90-120 seconds, such as performing 30 second maximal sprints, or a set of 8-15 repetitions of a resistance exercise at high intensity.
Glucose is a simple sugar which is a important energy source in living organisms and is a component of many carbohydrates.
Insulin in other hand is a natural hormone made by the pancreas that controls the level of the sugar glucose in the blood.
it meditates the uptake of glucose into adipose tissue and skeletal muscle.
That said reducing the amount of glucose and insulin in the blood can provide many health benefits as sustained high levels are related to a variety of serious health problems.
Long-term high blood glucose levels include:
Cardiovascular disease
Nerve damage(Neuropathy)
Kidney damage (diabetic nephopathy) or kidney failure
Damage in the blood vessels of the retina (diabetic retinopathy) leading to blindness
Clouding of the normal clear lens of the eye (cataract)
Feet problems caused by damage nerves or poor blood flow that can lead to serious skin infections, ulcerations, and in some cases amputation
Bone and joint problems
Teeth and gum problems
Long term high blood insulin levels include:
Higher triglyceride levels
High uric acid
Hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis)
Weight gain
Hypertension
Type two diabetes
The use of GDAs specially in bodybuilding lifestyle as shown scientifically to provide a number of benefits for health and performance
Including:
Improved skeletal muscle metabolism during exercicise
Reduce body fat levels
Reduce muscle atrophy
Reduce oxidative stress
Reduce cholesterol
Reduce triglycerides
Reduce insulin resistance
Reduce inflammation
Improve glycaemic control
Improve leptin levels
Improve blood lipid profile
Lower blood pressure
Improved mood
So you might be asking "when should i place GDAs on my daily basics"?
well GDAs can be taken almost any time that a single meal containing a large amount of carbohydrates is consumed (minimum 50-80g) (eg.200g of cooked basmati rice reverts to a 50.4g of carbohydrates), to improve insulin control and stabilize blood sugar levels.
But is highly recommended to be taken with your pre and post workout meals, sense they should be your highest carb meals of the day.
In that note i will live here the best GDAs in the market on my opinion.
